Elaine Comerford won a very close points decision against Bridgestone Muay Thais' Kelly Creegan on the Waterford Muay Thai promoted Adrenaline show.
The fight was non-stop action, with the two girsl leaving nothing in the ring, and the judges were left with the unenviable task of declaring a winner, with Elaine taking a split decision. There will no doubt be a rematch of this fight, and we look forward to it as it will no doubt be another cracker!

3rd December 2010
Brendan O'Shea won on points against Rush Fight Academys' Alan Kerslake on the Fight Before Christmas MMA show hosted by Informed Performance. It was non-stop between the two for the 3 rounds, with neither prepared to give the other an inch.
Brendan took the decision in the end, and the fight went on to be awarded Fight of the Night and was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody in attendace.

An extrememely busy day in the Sitjaipetch Gym in Blackpool, with almost 25 fights on a packed card over 6 or so hours.
Midleton Fight Academy was well represented with fighters in 4 bouts. All 4 fought extremely well and gave their all in exciting matches, and we had a good return with 2wins and 2 losses. Results are below:

• Elaine Comerford Vs. Shiv Foley (Sitjaipectch Gym) - Elaine win on Points.
• Maria Gonzalez Vs. Nicola Ahern (Sitjaipetch Gym) - Nicola win on Points.
• Wiochech Sulak Vs. Eoin O'Mahony (Waterford Muay Thai) - Eoin Win by TKO Round 2.
• Brian Lucey Vs. ?? (Crouching Tiger Muay Thai, Arklow) - Brian win on Points.

Judit Katona lost a points decision to Whitney Huish in her debut fight in Galway. Fighting against a much more experienced opponent, Judit did very well, and was aggressive and coming forward throughout the fight, but was unable to deal with Whitneys sharpness and constant pressure. A well deserved win for Whitney, but no doubt we'll see Judit back in action quite soon.

14th August 2010
Jamie O'Connell won his debut M.M.A. fight on the Rumble in Rush fight night by triangle choke in the first round of a scheduled 3. Jamie started very well, landing some nice puches, leg kicks and narrowly missing with a head kick. When the fight went to the ground, Jamie kept his cool and showed great composure, even moving his opponent towards his corner so that he could hear the instructions of our BJJ coach, Liam Beechinor. Soon after being swept by his oppenent, Jamie locked in a triangle choke and held for the few seconds until his opponent tapped out.
A great start to his fight career from a very promising prospect. We look forward to his next outing. Video and Photos to follow soon.

Congratulations also to Andrew Manning of the Pedro Bessa MMA fight team, who won his fight, the main event of the show by armbar, also in the first round. After being caught by a huge punch seconds into the fight, Andrew kept cool, and transitioned beautifully from triangle choke to armbar, holding on for the tap despite taking a few solid hammer fists to the face in the process.

A great night for the Cork lads - 2 fighers, 2 wins by submission in the first round. Couldn't have asked for anything more.

Work has begun on the expansion of the gym. The new area which will be turned into a strength and conditioning area will increase the size of the gym by about a 3rd, and will include the addition of some new equipment, including a rowing machine, cross-trainer, lifting platform and additional olympic weights.
The seperate conditioning area will allow for the increase of the matted area as well, allowing more space for training sessions, and the installation of a couple of sections of cage wall for M.M.A. drills.

Train hard, fight easy!!!!!

The gym held a seminar with Cage Rage & Strike Force fighter Mark Tucker. It was an excellent session, with the small group taking away some extremely valuable training and fighting tips from a very experienced fighter and arguably one of the nicest tough guys we've had the honour of dealing with! We look forward to having him back again in the near future.

Elaine Comerford fought on a novice show in the Louth Muay Thai gym against Joyce Fahy from the Hanuman gym in Galway. It was an extremely entertaining and close fight with very little between them both until Elaine stepped up the pressure in the last round to stop Joyce with 20seconds remaining in the fight. A great performance once again.

 

April 18th 2010

Maria Gonzalez fought for the first time in a novice show in Waterford on Sunday 18th April against Breffni Halligan from Waterford Muay Thai Gym. She left the judges with an easy decision at the end of the fight, winning on points. Onwards and upwards!
